New mandatory procedures: ANS resolution
Normative Resolution 619 adds new technologies to the list of mandatory coverage, including diagnostic tests for tuberculosis and contraceptive implants, and requires immediate attention from hospital billing teams

With Normative Resolution No. 619/2024, Brazil’s National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) approved the addition of four new technologies to the List of Health Procedures and Events. The update reinforces prevention, early diagnosis and epidemiological control policies and requires immediate attention from hospitals, clinics and billing teams.

What are the newly approved technologies?
Normative Resolution No. 619/2024 added:

Interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA)
Indicated for detecting latent tuberculosis in children who have been in contact with active cases. -
Lateral flow urine lipoarabinomannan assay (LF‑LAM)
Used to screen for and diagnose active tuberculosis in people living with HIV/AIDS. -
Commercial line probe assays (LPA)
Rapid tools to identify resistance to first- and second-line drugs in tuberculosis treatment — essential in regions with a higher incidence of drug‑resistant TB. -
Hormonal subdermal contraceptive implant
Intended for adult women of childbearing age.
Effective date
ANS Normative Resolution No. 619/2024 was published in the Official Gazette (Diário Oficial da União) on November 27, 2024.
Starting January 2, 2025, health plans must provide mandatory coverage for all the items listed, in accordance with specific utilization guidelines (DUTs).
What is the ANS List?
The List of Health Procedures and Events sets out the technologies that health plans must cover for their members. It includes therapies, tests, surgeries and other services, and covers all the diseases in the World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Classification of Diseases (ICD).
